Philosophical Beliefs Of Time To Teach

  1. Showing kids you care is essential to building relationships and creating a culture of respect in the classroom.
  2. Conflict with children is to be expected, as it is part of the process of growth during childhood.
  3. Teachers should explicitly teach students how we want them to behave.
  4. Effective discipline is consistent and immediate not haphazard and gradual.
  5. Even though behavior is learned, with guidance it can be changed.

Components of the Program

  1. Self-Control - The first component explores ways teachers can develop self-control when faced with problem behavior in the classroom. The traditional way of responding to misbehaving students is explored and alternate strategies are provided.
  2. Classroom Layout and Design – This component deals with the physical layout of the classroom and why the teacher has chosen that particular design. Ways to create a more calming, comfortable learning environment are investigated.
  3. Teach-To's – The Center for Teacher Effectiveness has created a series of behavioral lesson plans to address every imaginable behavior you expect from your students in the classroom. In this segment of the program, teachers are shown how they are set up and are guided through a sample lesson.
  4. Refocus – This powerful tool helps students learn to take responsibility for their actions in the classroom. The process is easy and helps turn a potentially negative moment into something more positive for both teacher and student.
  5. Building Relationships – This segment of the training shows teachers how to extend the honeymoon period experienced at the beginning of the school year.

What to Expect From a Training:

  • An extensive resource manual for each participant to be used as a resource during and after the training
  • Patience and understanding when dealing with the many questions that will arise
  • Practical strategies that can be applied immediately in the classroom and in your common areas
